Susannah Spurgeon was the wife of the famous preacher Charles Spurgeon, a very influential man in England. The most impressive thing about Susannah was her social work and her contribution to the promotion of reading and studies in poor churches that due to financial problems did not allow themselves to buy books.

During the 19th century, churches did not receive many monetary contributions and those who work in churches hardly  has to feed their families, Susannah Spurgeon noted this situation and yearned for a change.

Charles was a very good writer and in 1875 he managed to write his first book where many of his sermons were collected, but since his wife's opinion was so important to Charles, he gave him a draft so she could read it. When Susannah read her husband's book, she thought about how much she would like every church to have that book.

Despite the fact that Susannah did not have the financial resources to carry it out, she took her money and invested it in copies of Charles's book, which resulted in 200 printed books to be donated in different churches. From there began "The Book Fund", a job he spent the rest of her life, came to make 71,000 copies of books per year for churches across England, helped by donations from people who were willing to contribute to the growth of this foundation.
